Forging a Bright Solar Future
In the face of uncertainty
On September 22nd 2017 the International Trade Commission issued a "finding of injury" in a case brought by two former US solar panel manufacturers. Global competition, and economies of scale, have brought lower cost panels to the US solar industry, and generated savings for folks going solar; creating jobs nationwide.
This finding means that panel prices could rise, but panel pricing is only one factor influencing the cost of a solar system. The Solar Holler Team has expert knowledge of rate structures, and the policy environment, and we have strenuously reduced overhead, streamlined processes, and innovated unique financing options, passing the benefits, and cost-savings on to our customers.
So, what's next, and what does this mean to you...?
On October 3rd 2017, there will be a hearing at which industry members can recommend responses. By mid-November 2017 recommendations will be issued to The President, who will have wide latitude to act on recommendations, or take other actions.
A decision will be issued before the new year.
What does this mean for me?
If you own a home, small, or mid-sized business, and are going solar –or if you have received a solar proposal from Solar Holler– time is of the essence. Speculation as to the outcome of the ruling is beginning to affect prices.
If you are a large-scale or industrial consumer going solar, it is important to move quicker still, as the case makes industrial panels subject to greater potential cost-increases. Speculation will move prices further faster.
Embrace uncertainty, avoid speculation
As always, we at Solar Holler are here for you. Feel free to reach out to any of us on the team if you have any questions, or require any guidance. We will keep you updated as the situation continues to develop.
While there are many great articles online which describe the circumstances of the case, many are rife with speculation. While there is uncertainty as to the outcome of the case, the Solar Holler team has made plans to deal with any outcome possible, and continue providing low-cost solar to the Mountain State and Southern Ohio.
