Federal incentives that offset 40–70% of commercial solar costs are still on the table, but only for projects that are built and energized by the end of 2027. Given that most commercial projects take 6–12 months to develop (design, finance, permit, and install) and we're already booking commercial installations into next year, we can only guarantee we'll get you in if you sign by DECEMBER 31, 2026.
Lock In My Incentives →Your Utility Bill Is a Growing Tax on Your Business
Across all four Appalachian states that we serve, commercial electricity rates have climbed relentlessly in the past twenty years.
Ohio went from 8.45¢ to 16¢ per kWh — nearly doubling. West Virginia went from 6.23¢ to 15¢, a 142% increase. Virginia and Kentucky tell the same story. And in regulated markets like WV, VA, and KY, you're captive to whatever AEP or First Energy decides to charge. You can't shop your way to a lower rate.
Solar changes that equation permanently — converting a volatile, ever-rising expense into a fixed, predictable payment that you can budget for and that delivers savings to your bottom line.
Solar Pays for Itself — Federal Incentives Do the Heavy Lifting
Federal incentives have made commercial solar the most financially compelling infrastructure investment available to Appalachian organizations. Stack the ITC with the energy community bonus, domestic content bonus, and bonus depreciation and you can recover 40 - 70% of total project costs – often in year one.
Solar Holler handles every detail in house: design, permitting, and installation. We're able to offer financing at 6.99% with closing costs as low as $500.
The window for federal incentives is closing, but the math has never been better.

Your Energy Bill Is One of the Few Operating Costs You Can Actually Control
Businesses in WV, VA, OH, and KY operate in largely regulated utility markets– you're only choice is to pay whatever AEP or MonPower decide to charge. And they've been raising their rates every single year.
Solar converts that variable, ever-rising expense into a fixed, predictable payment – one that nearly pays for itself through federal tax incentives alone. For most central Appalachian businesses, the 30% ITC, energy community credit, and bonus depreciation together cover 40-70% of total project costs.
- Federal ITC + bonus depreciation can cover 40–70% of project costs
- Financing available at 6.99% and closing costs as low as $500
- An expert team to help you navigate the incentives and any grant opportunities
- Excess tax credits can be sold — Solar Holler brokers the transaction for you
- IBEW union-trained crews — local, certified, accountable
Oak Tree Farm, Hardy County WV
Oak Tree Farm wanted to reduce energy costs without tying up capital — so Solar Holler designed and installed a 1,400+ panel solar array. The result: nearly 100% of the farm's electricity is now offset by solar. The reduction in energy costs is already enabling expanded operations — and more West Virginia jobs.
Be a Good Steward — of the Environment and Your Congregation's Resources
Houses of worship carry a unique burden: large, often aging buildings with significant energy costs, tight donation-based budgets, and higher electricity rates than any other commercial customer. Every dollar spent on utilities is a dollar that doesn't go to ministry, community programs, or the people your congregation serves.
Solar changes that equation. And thanks to the Direct Pay provision that our founder successfully lobbied for inclusion in the IRA, tax-exempt congregations now receive the full federal solar credit as a direct IRS cash payment — no tax liability required. All told it can cover 40–70% of total project costs. The math has never been better, but the window on those incentives is closing fast.
- Direct Pay turns the 40–70% ITC into a cash refund — no tax liability needed
- Financing available at 6.99% and closing costs as low as $500
- Every dollar saved on utilities is freed for ministry and community impact
- Solar demonstrates environmental stewardship that resonates with congregations
- Solar Holler guides your leadership team and board through every step
St. Paul Lutheran Church — Morgantown, WV
St. Paul Lutheran Church partnered with Solar Holler to bring solar power to their Morgantown congregation — and their installation reflects a conviction shared by many faith communities: that environmental stewardship isn't separate from their mission — it is their mission.
"Our church is committed to stewarding God's creation by caring for the earth as best we can. Solar Holler worked with us to develop the right plan which will not only lessen our energy costs but also allows us to live out our faith."
Stretch Every Dollar. Put Energy Savings Directly to Work for Your Mission.
Nonprofits are asked to do more with less — and energy costs are one of the largest, least-visible drains on your operating budget. Large facilities, older buildings, aging HVAC systems: it adds up fast, and every dollar going to the utility company is a dollar not going to the people you serve.
Solar changes that math permanently. And the Direct Pay provision that our founder successfully lobbied Congress to include in the IRA means tax-exempt nonprofits can now reap the benefits of federal solar credits as a direct IRS cash refund — making ownership as accessible to you as it is to other businesses. All in, those benefits cover 40–70% of a project, but the window to get them is quickly closing.
- Direct Pay delivers the 40–70% ITC as a cash refund — no tax appetite needed
- Stack incentives: Direct Pay + Foundation grants
- Financing available at 6.99% and closing costs as low as $500
- Align your energy use with your mission — clean, local, community-rooted power
- An expert team to help you navigate the incentives and any grant opportunities
Harmony House — Huntington, WV
In 2018, Solar Holler completed a landmark 115-panel solar project for Harmony House, a nonprofit serving people experiencing homelessness in Huntington, West Virginia. The installation was celebrated as the largest solar project in the Huntington region at the time, and was designed to save the organization up to $130,000 in electricity costs over 25 years.
For Harmony House, those savings aren't just a line item — they're resources redirected from the utility company directly to the community. The project is a model for what Solar Holler believes solar should do: free up dollars for the people who need them most.
Real Appalachians. Real Savings.
